About the event:
Writing an emotionally charged story? How do you transform difficult truths into a compelling narrative?
Our speaker:
Join us as investigative journalist Clare Baldwin talks to Treena Nairne about how she crafts Pulitzer Prize-winning reportage out of the fascinating, sometimes dangerous work in exposing difficult truths in jurisdictions under authoritarian rule in Southeast Asia.
Our moderator:
Treena Nairne, a former journalist herself, will lead the discussion, during which Clare will depict the challenges faced uncovering Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte’s deadly anti-drug campaign, as well as the dangers involved in exposing military units responsible for the expulsion and murder of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar.
Why this matters:
Journalists perform a critical role in society, and as any independent journalist will attest, their most fundamental obligation is to the truth. It is not often that WiPS has the good fortune to hear from such a celebrated news reporter as Clare Baldwin. Do join us in this exclusive and illuminating event.
