The exhibition title alludes to the peak of human civilisation. Referencing German philosopher Ernst Bloch, Kiefer explores the “Golden Age” as a utopian ideal of a better future for humanity. Bloch argues that hope and the impulse to strive for a better world drive people to create art, music, and literature. German artist Anselm Kiefer presents works created between 2020 and 2022, which evoke the mythology and nostalgia of the ancient “Golden Age.”
Critical Acclaim:
“Enthralling and bleak at the same time, (Kiefer’s paintings) are like a visit to a great cathedral on a winter’s afternoon.” (Sanford Schwartz, Visual Artist)
“Attending to him, we may seem to remember something good about ourselves.” (Peter Schjeldahl, Art Critic).
Anselm Kiefer was born in Germany in 1945, shortly before the end of the Second World War. In his works, he explores historical themes. He studied law before attending the School of Fine Arts at Freiburg-im-Breisgau and the Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe, both in Germany.
