CREATING DEEPER CHARACTERS
Saturday, 17 September 2022 | 10 am to 12 noon (HK time)
Members: HK$300; Non-members: HK$400
Whether writing a short story, a novel, creative non-fiction, or memoir, keeping your readers engaged depends on how you portray your characters.
The first in our series, this is a Masterclass that focuses on developing the layers in creating authentic, interesting characters, starting with backstory and physical/personality attributes, relationships, world view, and then diving into psychology and motivations, needs, wants and fears. This directly affects point of view and voice, and doing the character work leads to stronger, more believable writing.
USING STORY STRUCTURE FOR STRONGER NOVELS
Saturday, 15 October 2022 | 10 am to 12 noon (HK time)
Members: HK$300; Non-members: HK$400
To keep your readers turning pages, you need a structure to your story and a plot that works.
Our second Masterclass explores the many approaches to story structure, ranging from the three-act and hero’s journey to both simpler and more complicated ways to put your novel together. We will look at why structure is important, how the basics work, how to apply either in planning or in rewriting, and how it affects pacing, dramatic scenes, building tension and creating climaxes and endings that work.
These classes will be recorded and made available for re-play for 7 days from the date of the event. Exclusive to those who have signed up.
Both classes are by Zoom and appropriate for all levels.
