The Smartphone Stories Photography Workshop sold out within hours of it being posted to members and the actual experience proved why. Held on a (very welcomed) cool Hong Kong autumn morning, it brought together an initially quiet group of women but who slowly built a creative energy that was palpable as they bonded over their shared interest, excited to explore new techniques and artistic possibilities.
Jayne Russell, our instructor, was phenomenal – her immediate, constructive feedback helped everyone shift her perspective and see through the frame of our smartphone screens in new and inspiring ways. It was fascinating to watch how quickly each participant’s understanding of light, composition and framing evolved. Whether a beginner or intermediate photographer, the guidance given was tailored to each individual skill level, making it easy to grow no matter your photographic experience.
What really stood out, however, was the sense of camaraderie. The group dynamic was encouraging and uplifting, and it felt as much like a community-building experience as a learning one. After the photography session, we gathered for a delicious and leisurely lunch, where we got to know each other better, shared our favourite shots, with Jayne giving detailed visual comments, and brainstormed a future Smartphone Workshop 201 or even photo-editing workshops.
Keep an eye out for these – the experience is one you won’t want to miss… But just be sure to sign up as soon as they are announced!
